1. To give a thrashing to; to beat severely.
2. To scold sharply; to attack verbally; to berate.

1. To treat or regard as an object of great interest or importance.
Lionize, comes from lion, in the sense of "a person of great interest or importance."

My brother actually uses this word very frequently when trying to impress girls or seem more intelligent than he actually is. Now, to use it in a chat up line of his.

I actually heard this word today for the first time and thought of this thread. Today's word is:
pettifogger \PET-ee-fog-ur\, noun:
1. A petty, unscrupulous lawyer; a shyster.
2. A person who quibbles over trivia.
