A Guide To Major Factions in 14 ABY

I figured I would go ahead and make us a list of major factions active during 14 ABY and what they were currently doing. It may help with future story ideas, it may help with future character ideas, or it may not help at all. I don't know what this could be really, but here it is anyway. This isn't all the factions of the time and it's most definitely still a work in progress so don't panic if I haven't posted your faction and/or its description. It'll all get done soon. If you'd like to contribute something to this guide, please feel free to post what you think could be helpful to this type of guide.

Corporate Sector Authority

The Corporate Sector Authority, or CSA for short, is a conglomerate government formed by many of the Galaxy's largest corporations. They operate out of the 30,000 star system Corporate Sector, located within the Tingel Arm. Due the the nature of this region of space, copious amounts of wealth can be amassed and spent within minutes without a single person caring. The CSA can not only afford to buy it's own sizable military, but with only a redirecting of materials and a day's production they can also build one. Despite the CSA's current fair standings with both the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant, the CSA opted to do just that, now owning a massive defense fleet that anyone would be foolish to attempt to overcome.

If you're a noble, politician, or businessperson that's neither from the Republic nor the Empire, chances are you're from the Corporate Sector, more specifically from its capitol planet, Etti IV. The CSA governing body is composed of a 55 member Direx Board, not unlike the Republic Senate. Their members are all high ranking business executives. The Direx Board is headed by the ExO, or Executive Officer. Other posts include a Prex for each of the corporations represented by the Direx Board, an Auditor-General who is charged with weeding out corruption and inefficiency while also serving as defense minister, and finally the Republic and Imperial Advisors that represent the interests of the New Republic and Galactic Empire respectively. A separate governing institution placed in charge of the CSA's finances is the Authority Currency Exchange, who had somewhat of a bartering system where goods could be traded in directly to them in exchange for an Authority Cash Voucher worth whatever the value of the traded goods was deemed. Needless to say that anyone in these administrative positions is sitting on top of a fantastic amount of wealth.

Due to the nature of the Corporate Sector, it is both a high yield income and high risk spot for the criminal underworld to do its business. The corporations have more money and resources than they know what to do with, however these corporate partners also have practically zero tolerance for crime and hindrances to their cash flow. Smugglers, pirates, and the like have come to regard the brutality of the Espos, the CSA's law enforcement, as a thing of legend. A violator of CSA law gets off lucky if he or she is beaten or tortured to death during the course of their arrest. Prisoners unfortunate enough to survive the Espos' hospitality can look forward to spending the rest of their days locked away in a semi-hibernated state within the recently rebuilt Star's End prison facility. Of course, many morally-challenged individuals see this potential fate not as a warning to avoid breaking the law, but instead as a clear message to never get caught breaking it.

This is great. I've been trying to get the faction groups together but it's been on a bit of a go slow. If we can get something like this completed it would be great. For reference and planning purposes.
